Welcome to Sawmill Valley Creek and to our first hide.
This multi stage cache will take you on a mini tour of Sawmill Creek, above Burnhamthorpe Rd.
*See important dated notes below!
*April 14/14 - no, no intended pattern here . . . . anyway seems the City inadvertently covered the part 1, the AA BB numbers with a strap to hold up a sign. So know that the first digit of AA and BB is the same. The second digit is pretty clear even though the top half is covered up.! Cache container is still in place! Cache on !!
*April 13/13 - Updated terrain to 4 due to washouts in Creek. City has posted Do Not Enter signs. Enter at your own risk. On the other hand I was there this morning and with the high water, creek jumping is needed which would make this a 4.5
** April '12 - I have updated the attributes to remove child friendly plus updated the terrain to 2.5. Please be aware the terrain in some areas has become very uneven. Older kids should be ok. **
Enjoy the trails and creek on your journey through this multi stage cache. This segment of the larger trail is so beautiful that its a must to guide you to more than one location. Along the way you will find a creek full of character, plenty of wildlife including the noisy blue jays, squirrels, ducks and we have even spotted a fox. Also the human wildlife/muggles who are walking dogs, running, cycling and kid walking.
The trail is kid friendly as I brought my son and his friends down here many times when they were primary school age to throw rocks in the water and find crayfish.
Because of uneven ground, water and exposed roots I suggest adult supervision.
Public Parking 1 is in the plaza at N 43 32.750, W 79 41.006. Public Parking 2 is in another plaza close by at N 43 33.016, W 79 41.277. * Do not park on Erin Mills Pkwy or Burnhamthorpe Rd. *
The final cache container is a small camoed lock 'n' lock. Large enough to hold a pen, small trinkets and geocoins.
The cache started with some Winnie the Pooh cards, mini kaleidoscope and other trinkets. Good luck!
At the first set of coordinates look for horizontal numbers. There 2 sets and they are 2 digits each. Use the digits AA and BB in the following calculation. (AA + BB) x 16 + 107 = CDEF
Near the 2nd set of co ordinates N 43 32.950, W79 40.672, look for a 4 digit number, GGGG. Use GGGG in the following calculation. GGGG x 4 - 12 = HIJK
CDEF = __ __ __ __
HIJK = __ __ __ __
Plug CDEF and HIJK as indicated in the final cache coordinates below. Take special note of the order.
The cache is located at: N 43 3C.FED
W 79 4I.HKJ (note this is 4i.HKJ, not 41.HKJ)
We hope you enjoyed your tour! Feedback is always welcome.
PS I've listed this as winter friendly. Logically it should be but mind the ice as trails are foot paths and not maintained.
