Geocache Description:

This cache is part of "Dead Presidents: The Hall of Dead Presidents" GC1W1AP.

A few weeks ago on a dark, rainy night I found a cache. At the time I didn't realize it was a "spawner" cache, but when I saw the Presidential cards inside I assumed that's what it was. I grabbed a card without looking to see who it was. It was dark, I was wet, and in a hurry. When I got back to the car and saw who I had picked, I was glad. At least I knew a little about him.

I recently came across a quote by Adams that is so contradictory to how our government is operating right now. Adams said "America does not go abroad in search of monsters to destroy. She is the well-wisher of freedom and independence of all. She is the champion and vindicator only of her own."

Adams was the son of John Adams, the 2nd President of the U.S. After graduating from Harvard College, Adams became a lawyer. He was appointed Minister to the Netherlands. In 1802 he was elected to the United States Senate. Six years later President Madison appointed him Minister to Russia.

Serving under President Monroe, Adams was one of America's great Secretaries of State. Eventually he was elected President and served from 1825-1829.

One account I read said although he was one of the nation’s preeminent secretaries of state, he proved to be the wrong man for the presidency. Aloof, stiff-necked, and ferociously independent, he failed to develop the support he needed in Washington, even among his own party.

Adams was elected a U.S. Representative from Massachusetts after leaving office, the only president ever to do so, serving for the last 17 years of his life. He suffered a stroke on the floor of the House on February 21, 1848, and died two days later.

There are two approaches to this cache..If you park at Parkin1 (N' 27.866 W' 10.551) you will find yourself 500 feet from the cache. From this parking spot you can access two Dead Presidents from one parking place.

If you park at Parkin2 (N' 27.923 W' 10.413) you will be 224 ft from the cache, but you are behind a bank and you will be quite far from Dead Prez Ford. Your choice.
