Shuhan's Bullet-scarred Stone is existing now yet.
Shuhan Takashima who lived in the Edo era preached the importance of the national defense early to the Shogunate and studied modern gunnery originally. He performed gunnery practice in a residence of here Nagasaki which called "Useiro" and in Takashimadaira of the Edo. A nearby stone is the target of bullets of a cannon. Though he received unreasonable pressure but he preached a plan for enriching the nation and building up the defenses same as Ryoma Sakamoto, and at last he was given an important post, but died of illness at 69 years old before the Meiji Revolution. This Shuhan's residence is listed as the official historic spot of Japan now.

江戸時代に生きた高島秋帆は、早くから国防の重要性を幕府に説き、独自に西洋砲術を研究していました。江戸の高島平や、雨声楼と呼ばれるここ長崎の邸宅において砲術演習を行いました。キャッシュのすぐ近くにある石は、砲術の的となった石です。秋帆は言われなき弾圧を受けながらも、坂本龍馬と同じ国富開国論を説き、やがて幕府に重用されるようになりましたが、明治維新を待たず69才で病没しました。この秋帆の邸宅は、現在は国指定史跡となっています。
