Geocache Description:

A cache located near to the burial site of Captain Bertram Dickson.

Captain Bertram Dickson was an Army officer who became interested in flying. In 1910, he gained the Aéro-Club de France's pilot's licence No71.
Later that year, he set two records in Scotland - he made the first ever passenger flight and was also credited with the first ever plane crash in Scotland during the same flight! This was due to the wrong amount of ballast being put on his aircraft - 42 kilograms of lead were added rather than 42 pounds........

In the same year, he also impressed the then Home Secretary, Winston Churchill, by undertaking aerial military sorties during Army manueuvers over Salisbury Plain. A few years later, he accurately predicted the future role that armed aircraft would have in any eventual war.

Later that year, he also made history again - though he probably wished he hadn't. He was involved in the very first mid air collision with another plane whilst flying his Farman biplane over Milan and was very badly injured - he never flew again.
Three years later, whilst staying in nearby Achnasheen, he died as a result of complications which arose from his Milan injuries.

Parking is difficult here and the road has fast moving traffic - please take care! Look for the obvious sign for the grave just west of Achanalt railway station. However, there is no parking up this track which leads to a private residence.
The cache is NOT in the churchyard.

There is no need to enter the cemetery to access this cache.

From the information board, branch left, pass two tress and work your way around the back of the cemetery.

Thanks to trahciul for help with this one.
