Geocache Description:

The Arno is situated on the border between Oxton and Prenton. There is access to it from Storeton Road, Talbot Road and along Duck Pond Lane at the back of Sainsburys.

This is my first cache so bare with me! The Arno for many years has been a place of recreation it was converted from a quarry into the six acre site as public space and garden on 30th March in 1912. A popular game at that time was Quoiting and was regularly played in the quarry. It required a horse-shoe to be pitched about 20 yards towards a peg in the ground. The area was called clay which required a lot of maintenance and upkeep. The game eventually died out as bowls became more popular. There are some old pictures I have seen of the quarry, I will try and put on here sometime. If you want to learn more about the Arno there is some fascinating info on forum known as wikiwirral follow this link below http://www.wikiwirral.co.uk/forums/ubbthreads.php/topics/191351/1.html Spoiler Alert- I walk through the Arno on most days and thought this would be a good place to hide a cache. The cache cannot be found in the rose garden or the quarry but near to one of the paths as you enter the park from Ingestre Road.
