Beehave!
Don’t try to access this cache from the nearby trailer court, you will get wet and have to walk through people’s yards. Instead, park at the Overholt Homestead and walk towards the Overton Stock Barn. The parking should be obvious once you are in West Overton. The barns are rented out in the summer for weddings so if you see a crowd, let’s not go geocrashing . Behind the barns there are several old foundations and there is an upper path and a lower path. To the right there is a small but marshy stream known as Felgars Run. Satellite reception will be better on the upper path but the cache site is more easily seen from the lower. The historic significance of the site should be apparent but more information is available at The Virtual Museum of Coal Mining in Western PA. Have fun and please be discrete, hopefully this site will be fully restored in the future. Because you will be walking around an historic site, please only attempt this cache during daylight hours.
The section of map below is from the 1905 USGS Topographic map, Connellsville Quad provided by MyTopo.com. In the map you will notice that Route 819 has not been built and there is a railway running through West Overton. If you know your map symbols, this map may help you find the cache...
