This cache is located close to Snowy Gorge Creek Hut. It requires tramping/trekking experience to get there on occasionally rough terrain
which includes shingle slides, boulder hopping and negotiating Spikey Spaniards and picking your own route. The best bet would be to stay at the hut overnight - nice hut 4 bunks , no fire , will need primus.
Although relatively low lying, this area is subject to true alpine weather and snow and severe winds and rain may be experienced at any time of the year. You need to have adequate and good raingear, gloves, hat, boots etc.
You will also need to to negotiate the Ahuriri River which can be an ankle deep stroll or impassable. Please use caution and do not attempt if you are uncertain.
Access to the river is up Birchwood Road. You will need a map and compass ( new Topo maps available from DOCS ( Department of Conservation ) in Twizel and elsewhere.
