Geocache Description:

On an island on the south side of Kawhia Harbour

The south side of the harbour has a number of areas with great pancake rock piles. Some are great for boulderers and rock climbers. There are some great campsites and this island has a neat little one round from the cache site. No water at any of them tho. Well worth a visit to the area. We kayaked across from Kawhia - about an hour each way - best around high tide, an hour or so either side so you can cross the sand bars but Ian has also paddled and walked across. Haven't yet got there by sail. Swimming is also an option, the water is really warm in summer but again, watch the tides - best at slack tides.
Kayaks are available for hire at the motor camp as you come into Kawhia. That was how we got there the first time.
You may find another way to get there - without a boat.
A bit of a scramble to the cache site through the scrub.
Cache is a click plastic container with: water wings, tortoise, hair clip, bracelet, dog and 3 little people.
