Geocache Description:

Maspeth has been my home for the last 2 years, and it was crying out for a cache. This is handicap accessible, watch out for the eyes of motorists and muggles queuing up at the 3 bus stops nearby.

The cache is located in a new triangle built between Grand and Flushing Avenues.
Those that know me personally will understand why I placed the cache here.

The name "Maspeth" is derived from the name of Mespeatches Indians, one of the 13 main Indian tribes that inhabited Long Island. It is translated to mean "at the bad waterplace" relating to the many stagnant swamps that existed in the area.
Maspeth was then inhabited by the Dutch and called it "Maspat" in 1635. This is the first European settlement in Queens.

Grand Avenue is the local main street and has many of the shops I frequent. Many of you from this area will note that the buildings located adjacent to the cache, once housed a pizzeria and an ice cream store.
My how 3 years have changed this MICRO-neighborhood! ;-)
