As an amateur mythologist and avid explorer, you
were delighted when the local university offered you an opportunity
to examine an ancient manuscript which had been uncovered near
here. It was during the course of your examinations that you first
discovered some references and clues hidden within the text.
Something which it seems the experts had missed.
The text mentioned a legend that, many millennia
ago, this valley was the centre piece of a great and peaceful
Kingdom with a majestic castle, carved from the living rock,
overlooking the valley. Then it seems, the Kingdom was devastated
overnight. The great castle was raised to the ground and many of
the citizens fled, never to return. The legend goes on to mention a
lost treasure, but you could not find any other mention of it.
Now, after years of studying the legend and
references you have found hidden in other local folklore, you have
discovered what you think is the location of an ancient text, which
may provide clues to the whereabouts of the lost treasures.
Unfortunately, you have found little information on what you may
face on your journey, other than a reference to clambering up
rocks, a dwarf cave and something about a seeing stone.
Your notes indicate that you should start at
S34° 08.713 E018° 25.994, and head up the trail. As you
near S34° 08.742 E018° 25.833, on a small plateau, you will
see a rock that resembles a giant coiled snake with it's head
raised, approximately 12m to the South West. To reach it, continue
along the path to Pulpit junction and then double back. You also
make a mental note to keep your eyes and ears open for travellers
and other adventures which often frequent these parts.
