Geocache Description:

This series commemorates the people I served with in Afghanistan who unfortunately didn’t make it home.

Rashidi was one of our interpreters in Kandahar, Afghanistan. He grew up in Kandahar, but attended high school in Pakistan, where he learned English. His family returned to Afghanistan shortly after 9/11. His father, a civil engineer, worked closely with the Americans to rebuild the country. In 2004, he was shot to death by the Taliban. Rashidi assumed head of household, offering his services as an interpreter for the Americans so his sisters could attend school and his older brother could attend medical school. He was 18 years old.

Rashidi served the Americans faithfully at PRT Kandahar before that base was transferred to the Canadians. He longed to come to the U.S., and was one week away from coming here on a student visa when he was assassinated by a suicide bomber on September 11, 2007.

This cache has been approved by Hayward Area Memorial Hospital, whose administration encourages the publics recreational/non-motorized use of the land.

01/22/12--This is now a stand-alone cache, as I've archived the Final.

Contents include:

- a couple of hand-carved wooden statues from Afghanistan
- a bag full of European/Latin electrical outlet adapters
- a 10,000 Korean won bill
- The I.D. cards to two Afghan local nationals I fired for stealing (maybe someone more enterprising than me can turn them into travel bugs or something)
