Geocache Description:

This 6-cache hiking series will take 4 (hiking) to 6 (snowshoeing) hours to complete.

The Dromore Woodland Trail (DWT) system consists of approximately 14 km of trails occupying 6 sq km in area. A hiking and snowshoeing trail, it is not recommended for biking and is closed to all motorized vehicles. It will be wet underfoot in places in the spring and after rainy periods, and will be buggy during the spring and summer.

The trail system consists of 4 separate loops and 2 connectors: the South Loop (5.7 km return from parking/trailhead); South Connector (1.2 km); Centre Loop (4.2 km); North Connector (0.65 km); and the side-by-side Birding Trail (1.3 km) and North Loop (2.0 km). A trail map and brief description of the various loops can be found at the following link (visit link)

Trail signage is in the form of colored ribbons hanging from branches and tree trunks. Adjacent trails don’t use the same color scheme. Trail signage exists at each junction, showing where you are, and the associated loops of the system.

Campbell Road and an unmarked spur off of the High Bridge Road parallel and cross the trails in places, however, the roads are not maintained during the winter and will be muddy in the spring and after rain. Two or 3 other unmarked roads penetrate the trail system in spots, but they are overgrown and not recommended. Accessing the caches from other than the trail system will likely require 2 or more stream or river crossings. All caches are winter-friendly and less than 25 m off-trail.

Several other caches may be found along the DWT while caching this series.

Centre Loop

This loop is my favorite, really showing what this region has to offer. The trail runs above and down along streams and the Pisquid River, often crossing over the river with well built bridges. The terrain is a mixture of hills and flat sections weaving through a mixture of hard-woods and softwoods. A fox, coyote, several rabbits, squirrels, an owl and red-headed woodpecker were all seen during cache placement.
