Geocache Description:

Welcome to Ossett, this is Storrs hill or Stony hill.

A circular walk around Storrs Hill taking in a number of caches.
The walk which you are going on is on public footpaths or roads, most is suitable for children, part of the walk will not be suitable for pushchairs but, an alternative will be given. You should allow 2 hrs approx (four or so if stopping for refreshment). There is parking for three/four cars at the start/finish of the walk. The walk is just over two miles and takes me approx 41 mins to complete (including the bonus cache)
There are four caches plus a bonus cache on this walk, two are micros and two are nanos. Each of the micros contains half of the needed co-ordinates for the bonus cache. The bonus cache is close the parking area.
The Caches are
Fir hedge.
Jenkin
Take a break.
We’ve got the power.
1. Proceed along Matty Marsden lane from the parking area.
2. Continue along the lane keeping Storrs Hill on your left until the lane turns left and goes up hill, at this point the dogs from the bungalow usually come to the fence to say hello (noisily mostly).
3. Where Matty Marsden turns left and goes uphill, our path today is straight on, onto the footpath. The first cache is located on this footpath. This footpath leads onto Jenkin Lane .This part of Jenkin lane is private but there is a public footpath on this route.
4. Continue keeping Jenkin House on your left and continue up Jenkin Lane and onto Jenkin Road, the second cache is located here. Follow the road into Horbury to Horbury Lawnmowers.
5. At Horbury Lawnmowers turn left and head back towards Ossett pausing for a moment to admire the rotavator in the window (if the shutters are up) which I am saving up for (for my allotment) .
6. Why not take a break in the Memorial gardens and collect the next cache.
7. When you have collected the cache continue on towards Ossett staying on this side of the road.
8. When you have reached the Halfway House collect the next cache and it may be time for refreshment, the Halfway House usually does a decent meal/drink.
9. When exiting the Halfway House it is recommended that you cross the road, continue on until you reach the Ossett village sign on the opposite side of the road. Next to the stone wall on this side is the old Ossett boundary stone. On the opposite of the road just after the Ossett sign there is a lane which you will be going along but first it would be safer to walk round the bend to cross the road and return to the lane.
10. Proceed down the lane and keep Rock Cottages to your right, when you reach the end of the path the whole vista of the Calder valley opens up. Ahead is a view of Emley Mast, on a night or early morning it can be seen lit up, if it is clear, also to the left of Emley mast is Holme Moss (Holmfirth) mast, this can be seen on clear days or at night/early morning. There is also the march of the pylons across the valley.
11. Taking great care go downhill and under the pylon following the path and you will end up back on Matty Marsden lane, turning to your right walk back to the layby.
12. When reaching the layby go and collect the bonus cache which is close by.
Alternatives
1. For pushchairs etc, from the Ossett boundary stone continue on and turn left onto Horbury road, walk past South Ossett Church, at the shopping parade which starts with Barracuda Fisheries ( came second in the Ridings FM fish and chip shop awards), turn left onto Storrs Hill road, this will lead you back to Matty Marsden Lane.
2. At the pylon/mast view if you are unsure of the descent down to the pylon, return towards rock cottages, turn left onto a footpath keeping the quarry face to your left, turn left at the end of the quarry, climb over the embankment next to the locked double gates and follow the path towards the pylon, at the pylon turn right downhill to Matty Marsden. Note you are allowed to climb over the earth embankment, this is a public footpath.

The final cache is located at
