Geocache Description:

Our Bookshelf

This cache is not located at the coordinates provided.
We all have seen the puzzles involving movie quotes or music lyrics.  I have never seen a puzzle involving quotes from our favorite medium,  the book.  I have selected quotes from some of our favorite titles on the bookshelf.  Two of the gang are children so a few of their books are on the shelf.  The answers can be found using google,wiki, or your favorite search engine.

The Process to solve:

1. Identify the book that contains the quote.

2. Identify the author or illustrator(in one case) of the book.

3. Identify the year the author/illustrator was born.

4. Do a little Math.

Example:

1946

Digit 1=1, Digit 2=9, Digit 3=4, Digit 4=6

A special thanks to Doctor Doolittle for the inspiration and the number system.

A. "After that the Pirates repaired the ship and prepared to set sail.  Before they left, Braid Beard handed me a flag and said, you make a fine Pirate .... Guard that treasure well.  We'll be back to get it soon enough."  (The Illustrator, not the author)

A = (Digit 4)

B. "The senior partner studied the resume for the hundredth time and again found nothing he disliked about Mitchell Y. McDeere, at least not on paper. He had the brains, the ambition, the good looks. And he was hungry; with his background, he had to be. He was married, and that was mandatory." (author)

B = (Digit 3) minus 2

C.  "A person's a person, no matter how small." (author)

 C = (Digit 2)

D.  "God creates dinosaurs, God kills dinosaurs, God creates man, man kills God, man brings back dinosaurs." (author)

 D = (Digit 3) plus 5

E.  "Show me a man or a woman alone and I'll show you a saint. Give me two and they'll fall in love. Give me three and they'll invent the charming thing we call 'society'. Give me four and they'll build a pyramid. Give me five and they'll make one an outcast. Give me six and they'll reinvent prejudice. Give me seven and in seven years they'll reinvent warfare. Man may have been made in the image of God, but human society was made in the image of His opposite number, and is always trying to get back home." (author)

 E = (Digit 3) minus 1

F.  "You come of the Lord Adam and the Lady Eve,' said Aslan. 'And that is both honour enough to erect the head of the poorest beggar, and shame enough to bow the shoulders of the greatest emperor in earth." (author)

 F = (Digit 2) minus 3

G.   "O Draconian Devil/Oh Lame Saint" (author)

G = (Digit 4) minus 2

H.   "I swear by my life and my love of it that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine." (author)

H = (Digit 3) plus 1

I.  "He gazed up at the enormous face. Forty years it had taken him to learn what kind of smile was hidden beneath the dark moustache. O cruel, needless misunderstanding! O stubborn, self-willed exile from the loving breast! Two gin-scented tears trickled down the sides of his nose. But it was all right, everything was all right, the struggle was finished. He had won the victory over himself. He loved Big Brother." (author)

I = (Digit 4) plus 6

J.  "Why, you may take the most gallant sailor, the most intrepid airman or the most audacious soldier, put them at a table together- what do you get?" (author)

J = (Digit 4) plus 2
