Centroid of GRAZ - CoG
Es sind schon viele sogenannte “Mittelpunkte” von verschiedenen Gebieten auf verschiedene Arten berechnet worden. Diese Punkte werden vorwiegend für touristische Zwecke genutzt. Um sich mit dieser Thematik zu befassen entstand die Idee, den Mittelpunkt (Centroid) von Graz - CoG - zu berechnen und diesen besonderen Punkt zumindest in der “Cacherszene” bekannt zu machen.
Mit frei verfügbaren Geodaten sind zuerst die Koordinaten für den gesuchten Punkt CoG zu berechnen. Die markierten Teile A, C, E und G dieses Ergebnisses werden später noch gebraucht.

Nach erfolgreicher Berechnung der Koordinaten wird man feststellen, dass dieser Punkt wegen "Unzugänglichkeit" für einen Cache ungeeignet ist. Leider war es wegen der hohen Cachedichte in Graz auch nach mehrmaligen Versuchen nicht möglich, den Cache in der näheren Umgebung vom CoG zu legen. Daher wurde schließlich ein Ort ausgesucht, der zumindest eine leichte Wartung ermöglicht. Wer beim Theorieteil lange herumgerechnet hat wird sich vielleicht freuen, dass für die Ermittlung der tatsächlichen Cachekoordinaten ein Ausflug in die Natur vorgesehen ist, bei dem bestimmte Informationen zu sammeln sind.
Diese Informationen erhält man in der Nähe von vier Stationen, die noch zu berechnen sind - also doch noch etwas Theorie. Die vier Stationen befinden sich genau im Norden, Osten, Süden und Westen vom zuvor berechneten CoG - die jeweiligen Entfernungen und die zu bestimmende Information entnehme man der unten angegebenen Tabelle. Bei jeder dieser Stationen befindet sich in unmittelbarer Umgebung auch ein “Zentrum”, d.h. der CoG wird also von vier anderen “Zentren” umzingelt.

Abhängig vom Echo besteht die Möglichkeit für weitere "Centroid of ..." Caches - konkret habe ich "Centroid of Styria" im Auge. Es gibt daher auch einen Bonusbuchstaben.
Centroid of GRAZ - CoG
Many so called “centers” of different regions have been computed in different ways till now.
These points are used for touristic purposes mainly. To deal with this topic the idea was born to compute the center (centroid) of Graz - CoG. Maybe this special point will be well known in the cacher-scene.
In a first step you have to compute the values for this point CoG with freely available geodata. Don't forget the bold parts A, C, E and G of the result, you will need it later.

Having been successful in computing the coordinates you will recognise that this point ist not suitable for hiding a cache because of inaccessibleness. Due to the high density of caches in Graz it was not possible to find a place for the cache nearby to CoG. Finally I decided to select a place allowing easy maintenance. If you have spent much time in computing you will be happy to get the possibility for a trip to nature. In doing so you have to collect some information to be able to compute the coordinates of the real cache.
You can get this information in the neighborhood of four stations - these stations can be found exactly in the north, east, west and south of the point CoG and the coordinates of these stations have to be computed. The distance from each station to CoG and the kind of information to collect can be seen in the table below. In the neighborhood of each of these stations you can find a kind of “center”, denoting our CoG being surrounded by four different “centers”.

About 20 m after the entrance to this "center" there is a large metal gate at the end of the cul-de-sac on the left. The number of sections of this gate reduced by the value 1 results in I.
