This cache has been archived.

Reviewer Revan: Cache Owner (CO) has not responded, so I am regretfully archiving this cache to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking new cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace this cache sometime in the future (not to exceed 10 days from the date of this entry), just contact me (by e-mail), and assuming it still meets the current Guidelines, I will consider unarchiving this cache.

Please be advised this is not a guarantee that this geocache will be unarchived. Many factors will go into my decision. The most important of which is how you responded to geocachers who tried to communicate with you regarding the problem(s) with this geocache hide and how you communicated with me, the Reviewer Revan.

Geocache Description:

Fox Hembry Cemetery is located in Lewisville. It is one of the few exclusively African-American cemeteries in the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex. The date on the gate says 1831. Previously, I was able to find some information on this cemetery, but now I am unable to find anything on line at all. I will be going to the library to see if I can find out more. What's interesting about this cemetery is that it is near a very busy part of town, but almost invisible. I had heard stories and rumors about this cemetery, but was never able to find it. One of the stories about this cemetery is that it was heavily vandalized in a hate crime about 20 years ago. You can still see the damage in the headstones. It looks as if someone took a sledge hammer to some of them. I find it absolutely loathsome that someone could do this.

It is in an area that needs a serious cleanup. It would appear that many people have been dumping here for some time. Much of the trash is way too large to haul out in a simple trash bag. This will require an organized effort to get it cleaned up. The area inside the fence appears to be maintained and there is no trash. All of the trash is to the outside of of the fence. You can't miss it.

So, above all, please be respectful. If you have a pickup, you can haul out a bunch of stuff, like tires, fencing, and other assorted trash. The cache is in a small, camo'ed lock&lock container with room for some small items, a log, and a pencil. Thanks and have fun.

Also, the gate may appeared locked, but the chain is just wrapped around the gate with the lock not being engaged in the chain. At least it was that way when I was last there.

Congrats to lrbarrios for being FTF!
