The 'Light the Geo Torch Victoria' - Geocaching
101 event had an excellent turn-out this weekend. A head count at
the beginning of the 101 event was 96 with almost half of the
attendees being either new geocachers or those who wanted more
information on the sport. Chris Edley gave an excellent
presentation that was e...njoyed by all. There were on-site
displays of cache containers, GPS receivers, GSAK info and
trackable coins and travel bugs. Landsharkz had a few tables of
'must-have' goodies for sale and the Scouts offered a
trackable/geography presentation downstairs. Outside the building
new cachers were able to load coordinates and find some caches
hidden especially for the event. Refreshments were donated by both
Serious Coffee and McDonald's.
In keeping with the 'Light the Geo Torch' theme there were medals
awarded for FTF, STF and TTF. The lucky winners were photographed
on the stage wearing their medals and Olympic head wreaths! There
were lots of great door prizes given away as well.
Thanks to everyone who volunteered their time and resources to make
these events such a great success. We couldn't have done it without
you.

Join us for an afternoon of Geocaching 101. This event will be a
classroom setting where everyone can learn something
new.
Have you heard about
geocaching and you'd like to learn more about it? Maybe you got a
GPS for Christmas but aren't sure how to find a geocache. Perhaps
you've got a few geocaches under your belt but want to find out
more.
Not only will you learn
about the hobby of geocaching, you'll have a chance to meet
experienced cachers, ask questions, view geocaching items, learn
some geocaching 'lingo' and actually find some geocaches hidden
just for this event.
If you have a GPS please
bring it with you. You'll learn how to set up and use your new GPS,
enter coordinates and find geocaches. There will be displays on
site focusing on different cache containers, travel bugs and
geocoins, various GPS units, and more. You'll be introduced to the
geocaching.com website and how to navigate it. Learn how to log and
track travel bugs and geocoins. Find out about GSAK and paperless
caching!
Everyone is welcome.
Bring the family! We encourage experienced cachers to attend and
share your caching experiences, get some hints on those tough
puzzles and trade and discover your travel bugs and
coins.
There will be games and
prizes! Additional door prizes are gratefully
accepted.
