Located in road PR-464 in Moca
The unique architectural landmark known as El Palacete Los Moreau is located in the municipality of Moca on Puerto Rico’s western Porta del Sol region. Part of the Hacienda Irurena, a 19th Century coffee plantation, this mansion was completed in 1905 and is now the only structure left from the old hacienda. Designed by engineer Paul Servajean in the french “chateau” style of the time, the palace features huge porticos and front end spires.

Shortly after the the house was completed in 1905, sugarcane became the principal crop cultivated on the surrounding land. Enrique Laguerre, one of Puerto Rico’s most celebrated writers, based his classic novel “La Llamarada” on this period in the plantation’s history, then known as the Castillo Labadie.

Now administered by the municipality of Moca after several years of abandonment, the property was restored as a museum and renamed the Palacete Los Moreau, in honor of Laguerre’s fictional characters. Rooms feature authentic period furniture and include a public library named after the author. After passing away in 2005, Enrique Laguerre’s remains were interred in the grounds of the estate, forever linking him to the place made famous by his skillful writing.

El hito arquitectónico conocido como El Palacete Los Moreau está ubicado en el municipio de Moca en el oeste de Puerto Rico, la región Porta del Sol. Parte de la Irurena Hacienda, una plantación de café Siglo 19, esta mansión fue terminada en 1905 y ahora es la única estructura que queda de la antigua hacienda. Diseñado por el ingeniero Paul Servajean en el estilo francés "chateau" estilo de la época, el palacio cuenta con enormes pórticos y torres de comunicaciones.

Poco después que la casa se terminó en el 1905, la caña de azúcar se convirtió en la principal cosecha cultivada en las tierras circundantes. Enrique Laguerre, uno de los escritores más célebres de Puerto Rico, basó su novela clásica "La Llamarada" en este período en la historia de la plantación, entonces conocido como el Castillo Labadie.

Ahora es administrado por el municipio de Moca, tras varios años de abandono, la propiedad fue restaurada como museo y rebautizado como el Palacete Los Moreau, en honor a los personajes de ficción de Laguerre. Las habitaciones cuentan con auténticos muebles de época, e incluyen una biblioteca pública que lleva el nombre del autor. Tras fallecer en 2005, Enrique Laguerre sus restos fueron enterrados en los terrenos de la finca, para que siempre sea vinculado con el lugar que hizo famoso por su habilidad de escritura.
