Split Level Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

FORK: This cache location is no longer accessible due to new boundary fencing installed by CAP. We looked for it, but it was covered with dirt and rocks from recent road clearing so we couldn't find it. Consider it gone. Team FORK

Geocache Description:

Located on State Trust Land in the Surprise/Buckeye border region and accessible by dirt roads and trails. This cache adds some balance to the distribution of our caches along the "boulevard". Most vehicles will be able to reach this location with some care.

At the location of this cache you can observe an interesting engineering feature of the Central Arizona Project Canal. This feature is based on the fact that a fluid will seek a common level where pressures equalize. In this case the flow of water in the canal is disrupted yet the flow continues on its own after the disruption without any mechanical assistance (unlike the situation near our
"Level Two" cache where pumps raise the water to a higher level). The disruption here is designed to accommodate another local fact of like: surface drainage. Engineered solutions like these make the modern CAP Canal far more sophisticated than the original canal network created by the Hohokam Indians. Take a few extra minutes while in this area to note the modern attributes of the CAP.
