Geologischer Aufschluß Wogau

Auf einer Fläche von etwa 0,072 ha ist der Geologische Aufschluß Wogau seit 2001 als Naturdenkmal geschützt.



Er ist deshalb so bedeutsam, weil er gut den Übergang vom Mittleren Buntsandstein zum Oberen Buntsandstein zeigt. Dies sind laut Informationstafel Chriotheriensandstein und fossile Gipse.
An die terrestrischen Veränderungen anschließend flutete infolge von Landsenkungen das Meer der Zechsteinzeit aus nördlichen Richtungen heran. Es lagerte Kalke, Mergel sowie Evaporite wie Gips und Salze ab.
Da der Chriotheriensandstein sehr stark verwittert, konnte das Material sehr leicht abgebaut werden. So entstand die künstliche Höhle am Standort, während die meisten kleineren Höhlen am Fuß der Hänge natürlichen Ursprungs und durch Ausspülungen entstanden sind. Die oberen Gipsschichten bilden durch die starke Verwitterung typisch stufenförmige Landschaften.

Vorort sind zwei sehr aufschlußreiche Informationstafeln zu finden.

Covering an area of about 0.072 ha of the Geological digestion Wogau is protected as natural monument since 2001. It is so important because it shows well the transition from Middle to the Upper Bunter sandstone. These are, according to information board Chriotheriensandstein and fossil casts. As result of the terrestrial changes in land subsidence the sea of the Zechstoneage flloded from northern Directions. It was encamped from limestone, marl and evaporites such as gypsum and salts.

Since the Chriotherien-sandstone strongly weathered, the material could be removed very easily. Thus, the artificial cave was created on Site, while most of the smaller caves are at the foot of the slopes of natural origin and caused by irrigation. The upper gypsum formed by the strong weathering of a typical step-like landscapes.

Onsite we can find two very meaningful information tables.
