Geocache Description:

A Black Taped Pill Bottle

As a bookend to my other cache GC1WFJX Chill Out! but as the case of that cache where it provides cooling to downtown buildings this cache highlights the other end of the spectrum.

Facing west and to your right you will notice large smokestacks. These are for a City of Chicago Incinerator. A byproduct of this process creates heat which they make steam. This steam is offered free of charge to the factories on this industrial park.

Now, notice the large complex of buildings in front of you and slightly to the south. This used to be the World's Largest candy manufacturing facility under one roof, Brach's Candy Company. They took advantage of this offer and powered most of their machinery by steam. Odd throwback in this modern age.

Another aside to this cache. Back in the day when I had an interest in street racing this isolated industrial corridor used to be the center of street drag racing. They would close down the streets and run races until the cops would come by and break up the crowd late at night with the racers scurrying to depart.

Well as you might imagine, with this unregulated activity, from time to time there would be an accident and the cops prevent this activity from going on for a few weeks until it was finally closed down for good.

Those were some good times! Maybe 50 cars lined up on the driveways, all of the radio's tuned to the same station and blaring, The smell of burning rubber and the cars speeding by just a scant few feet away.

Have Fun! and drive carefully. :)
