This 30 cal. ammo box is about a 2.8 mile trek from the parking
area (same parking as Snake
Hill - The Good ) and the terrain varies from mild to strenuous
(this makes it bad because, remember, one has to hike back out of
here). The first 1.3 miles is along the main access road that winds
through the area to an abandoned gas well site. Here you will need
to veer to the right into the woods and onto an older tram road.
Follow this to the cache. There were some nice views when I made
the hike. When I ran out of views, I hid the box.
The west half of the coordinates for Snake
Hill - The Ugly are on the back of the front cover of the
logbook and on the underside of the ammo box lid.
If you haven't already found The
MAGPI Flying Ammo Can or Buzzard's
Head Cache or Snake
Hill WMA...Take a Hike! you'll be passing near. Not that close,
but near.
I'd like to remind you to take proper precautions during hunting
season(s). The biggest time of concern is the two week buck firearm
season that begins Thanksgiving week. While this is public land for
all of us to enjoy, its primary use is game management and a place
for hunters to have public accessible land for hunting. Please be
respectful by planning your search outside of peak hunting times.
If you're unsure please check the WVDNR's website.
Be aware of your surroundings, be safe, and I hope you
enjoy.
