This cemetery stays in various stages of disrepair. You might not want to drive around the loop unless you have a high clearance as it is often rutted.
The acquisition of this land took place in the early 1920s with the Black community in mind. The cemetery was opened April 3, 1924. For many years this cemetery was so overgrown that one would not recognize it as such.
This cache recently took on a new meaning to me after the book and movie "The Help" were released. I went to the historical society to determine where a dear friend of mine from my youth is buried and was surprised to find that she is in this cemetery.
