Gråsjälören

Gråsjälören arrenderas sedan 1996 av Lions
Club. På ön har man byggt upp vedförråd, toaletter, grillplatser,
värmestuga, båtbrygga med mera. Det allra senaste tillskottet är en
värmestuga som tidigare funnits på Stensborg. Under 2008 monterades
stugan ned och fraktades till Gråsjälören där klubben byggde upp
stugan igen och renoverat den med tilläggsisolering och nytt tak.
Lagom till vintersäsongen 2010 är stugan klar för att användas som
kiosk på ön. Här kommer Lions erbjuda korv, läsk, kaffe och även
våfflor till sugna besökare.
För att ta sig till ön kan man välja på
flera olika sätt beroende på årstid. Sommartid blir det båt i någon
form som gäller. På vintern kan man välja mellan skoter, skidor
eller använda isbanan som kommunen gör i ordning varje vinter där
du både kan gå och åka skridskor. Ibland dras även en isväg upp
nästan ända fram till ön. Mer om

Men det är inte bara de senaste åren som
det varit liv på den lilla ön så nära Luleås centrum. Under första
hälften av 1900-talet verkar det ha varit en hel del liv där ute.
Då fanns hantverkshyttan där ute med restaurang och samlingslokal.
Byggnaden sägs ha varit jakttornsliknande. Även på den här tiden
plogades en väg upp på isen. Man höll skidtävlingar på vintern och
på sommaren hölls ett långdistanssim från piren till ön och
tillbaka. På 1930-talet byggde man även en dansbana och
iordningställde badplatsen med omklädningsrum, trampolin, hopptorn
med mera.

Since 1996 the Lions Club is commissioned by the municipality to
take care of the island Gråsjälören. On the island the Lions have
built storage for wood, toilets, barbecues, heated cabin, boating
facilities, and more. The most recent addition is a heated cabin
that previously existed in Stensborg. In 2008, they disassembled
the whole cabin and transported it to Gråsjälören where the club
rebuilt and renovated it, adding better insulation and a new roof.
Just in time for the winter season 2010 the new cabin is ready for
use as a kiosk on the island. Here Lions offer hot dogs, sodas,
coffee and even waffles to hungry visitors.
To get to the island,
you can choose from a variety of ways depending on the season. In
summer it is a boat of any kind that is best. In
winter you can choose from snowmobile, skies or use
the shoveled ice
way that the municipality prepares each winter where you can both
walk and skate. Sometimes even an ice road
is shoveledup
almost all the way to the island.
When you go here - do not forget to
pack lunch!
But it's not just the last few years that there is life on the
small island so close to the center of Luleå. In the first half of
the 1900s there seems to have been a lot of life out there. There
were a craft hut out there with a restaurant and community
center. The
building is said to have been similar to a hunting
tower. Even
at this time a road was plowed on the ice. There were skiing
competitions in the winter and in summer there were a long distance
swimming competition from the pier to the island and back. In the
1930s a dance floor was prepared along with a swimming area with
changing rooms, trampoline, diving tower and
more.
