KING HENRY VIII - Wife #1 Catherine of Aragon - Married 1509 - 1533
Catherine of Aragon was the child of Ferdinand and Isabella of Spain. She was betrothed at three years old to Arthur, the son of Henry VII of England. Arthur was two years old.
When Catherine was 16, she married Arthur. But less than 6 months later, Arthur became sick and died. She married his brother Henry and became the Queen of England.
Because Catherine did not conceive a male heir, Henry took a mistress and petitioned the Pope to have his marriage annulled. It was an important statement in history for this to occur.
