KING HENRY VIII - Wife #4 Anne of Cleves - Married 1540 - Divorced 1540
Henry VIII remained single for over two years after Jane Seymour's death, possibly giving some credence to the thought that he genuinely mourned for her.
This marriage was made on the basis of an alliance, as the prior marriages did not have political or monetary gain and England had some vulnerabilities that needed to be quenched.
Henry sent for commissions and paintings of the women as a must-have in his selection to ensure he had a handsome wife. Anne of Cleves was selected.
Anne did not look like her portrait and Henry called her a 'Flanders Mare'. She was also more suited to domestic skills and not the music that Henry loved.
Henry looked to annul the marriage the day after it began. Anne did not fight back, after seeing the end to prior wives.
