Geocache Description:

A paddling multi cache along the Weeki Wachee River

State Park Information

Weeki Wachee is probably most commonly associated with mermaids. The river is equally interesting in a more natural way. Weeki Wachee Springs is a first magnitude spring. With a discharge of over 64 million gallons of 72° F water each day, the river runs clear and will provide a good workout if you paddle upstream. Heading downstream can be a pleasant drift. Manatees can sometimes be seen in the river. There are some areas along the river that have been developed, but fortunately there is enough public land for your natural enjoyment.

Canoes and kayaks can be rented at the State Park for a one-way trip downstream. Or for a fee you may launch your own canoe or kayak at the State Park, they will shuttle you and your kayak back up to the launch point for an additional fee. Rodger’s Park is the take out for the State Park rentals. It is also your launch if you are going to paddle upstream. There is a $5 parking fee (self service, cash or credit cards) at Roger’s Park. The river trip from the State Park (near the head spring) to Roger’s Park is about 5.5 miles one way. Check out the link to the State Park website above the photo for hours and more information. A private livery, Weeki Wachee Kayak, also rents kayaks that can be launched in the State Park. The take out for that trip is at their property across the river from Roger’s Park. They also provide a shuttle service.

The first three stages of the multi-cache are official pre-existing man-made features. The only item actually placed as a part of this cache is the final stage. It is located on SWFWMD lands. Bring a pen to sign the log.

There is some good information in IK’s log of 3/18/2010, you may want to read it before planning your trip.

A good place to park your kayak is located a short distance downstream from the final cache. From there it is about 250 feet to the final cache.

At stage one you will find a 4 digit number and a 5 digit number. Call the numbers ABCD and EF-GHI. Stage two is located at N28° 3C.GEA W082° 34.EEE.
