Having done some caching recently in
the Lynn Woods area, I thought I should return the favor and place
a few caches myself. Maybe an easy multi, a tough multi and an in
between multi would be good. Let’s see what develops. This
cache is a tough multi on the edge of the woods.
The Lynn Woods
According to the Friends of Lynn Woods’ website, Lynn Woods
Reservation is the second largest municipal park in the greater
Boston area. This 2,200 acre forest reserve consists of ponds,
wetlands, streams, deciduous/evergreen forest and rocky ledge. The
ponds provide the drinking water for the residents of Lynn and
surrounding communities.
The Edge
Why the edge? There are two reasons for the name. First off, the
cache is located on the northern edge of the Lynn Woods. The
second, and more important reason, is the first stage and the final
are both located on or over the edge of a steep bedrock
formation.
The Cache
Retrieving the first stage will be harder than the final, but both
will require you to use caution. I placed the first stage without
the use of any special equipment. (No ropes) From the right angle,
you can see the red container from about 20 feet away. How to
retrieve it? Using caution you can get to the container from below
or from the right. I would not suggest trying to get it from
above.
The red container contains the coords for the final, which is just
a short walk away. You can access the final area either from below
or above. Either way you need to use caution because the terrain is
steep. Once you reach the final location, sit down, relax and enjoy
the view.
Use caution when retrieving the first
stage and getting to the final location. The terrain rating is a
4.5 due to the physical difficulty getting to both.
Good luck and good caching,
Loch Cache
