This Cache was stolen for the first time around November / December
2003 We have replaced it last Sunday (March 21st 2004) This is a
multilevel microcache that takes you around the Steigerts area. The
cache itself is a 35mm Film canister with a couple of russian made
lapel pins, a modelling balloon and 10 french francs as starting
content. Please use the cache notice backside as a logbook.
Please let me know when the log is full via your entry on the
website.
You must have a compass with you and you will need to have a
visibility of 42.36 Kilometers or more to successfully complete the
cache (or you can decrypt the low visibility cheat below and chuck
visibility and the compass).
This cache is located close to
MRUDY's
Mary Shelley's Schloss cache.
In case the castle over there is closed, try to solve this one
here if you need to find a really nice place to eat or drink, it's
starting point is only a 20 Minute drive away and you will need
less than an hour to solve it's three stages.
Start out at the parking lot located at
N49 45.479 E8 41.092
There is a map there where you have to obtain a couple of
numbers to get to the second stage.
The map's legend has distances for two very long routes - one is
marked by a red line, the other one by a white cross.
Take the Kilometer Distance for the route white cross (without
the figures behind the decimal point). We designate this value V.
(i.e. white cross route is a total distance of 154.3 Kilometers
then V=154).
Now we desigante the Kilometer distance for the route red line
(again, without the figures behind the decimal point) value W.
Next we calculate values A and B as follows:
A=V-4
B=(W*2)-42
The coordinates for stage two are calculated like this:
Starting Point Coordinates minus North A plus East B
Just follow the trail uphill until you reach stage two.
This is where you take out your compass (or start decyphering
the low visibility cheat below). Look roughly into a northern
direction - If the visibility is sufficient, you will see the
complete Frankfurt Skyline. Take a bearing for the highest building
(the television tower). If you are set for True north, please take
a magnetic bearing (although the difference hereabouts is in the 3°
range i.e. MAG 90°= TRUE 93°)
Round down the compass bearing to the next full tenth (ie. if
you took a bearing of 247 you round down to 240). Now add 100 to
that rounded down bearing. This is value X.
Also, there is a tree here somewhere close by with two numbers
on it - they are written in yellow and are circled in yellow as
well. One we designate value Y and the other one we designate value
Z (we don't care which one is which).
Now calculate values C and D as follows:
C=(X-30)+Y+Z
D=(X/3)+(X*2)
The cache is located at the following coordinates:
Stage 2 Coordinates minus North C minus East D
Try to resist the temptation of visiting the Cafe across from
where you are right now - you will visit a much better place at the
final destination (Usually home made pie !).
To reach the final destination, head back to the starting point
and take your vehicle with you (Assuming you did in fact walk to
stage 2)
A note on all the calculations that you are doing for this
cache: All values and calculations on locations are to be made as
if there were no decimal points in the WGS84 coordinates. What this
means is that if you somewhere within the calculations end up with
a number of 67, this is actually 0° 0.067'. Respectively, a value
of 5 would be 0° 0.005' - a value of 231 would be read as 0° 0.231'
and a value of 2450 would in fact be 0° 2.450'
