Geocache Description:

The journey is very muddy during the rainy season but along a bona fide suburban trail. During dry times it might be much easier, but satellite reception can be dicey year round so check all likely spots before giving up.

This is our first geocache hide, and it represents the end of a long journey and also a beginning. As a family, MallycatInk has lived in many places, from Greenwich Mean time to Pacific Standard Time. We’ve lived in beach towns like San Clemente, CA, big cities like Philadelphia, PA, rural spots like Knox County, KY, the Rocky Mountains of CO, and even lived abroad in the foggy UK. We’ve traveled from Switzerland to Honduras. We only wish we’d started geocaching sooner, before we decided we really love living in the Pacific Northwest. But we are glad to have settled near the sound like this cache.

We are wayfarers, sojourners, walkers, and pilgrims; however, our journey has led us to the edge of the Western hemisphere. We moved recently to Washington. We searched for a month for a place to live, and the Mukilteo library was a kind of home for us as we searched for homes in the area. In the mean time, we stumbled upon this great little hike, behind the library, that led us down the hill, searching for a trail that would take us all the way to the shore. This cache is pretty close to as far west as we could hike during our first month in the Pacific Northwest. Someday, we hope this trail goes all the way across the railroad tracks and to the sound.

Be sure to take the trail off to the left side of the library parking lot, over a bridge. The trail can be very muddy toward the bottom. On three separate trips to check on things, our good and trusty GPS cannot keep a steady coordinate, so be sure to expand your radius. We've seen it off as much as 70 feet. Keep the hint handy.

This cache commemorates the end of our long journey (hopefully) of living in different locales, but the beginning of a great journey of a life of exploration through geocaching.

We set this up for release in honor of a special date and time: 02/02 at 2:02 PM. This is a date and time important to MallycatInk. FTF gets a gift card to Jamba Juice. We invite swag with a pilgrimage, wayfaring, or westward theme.

OPTIONAL ACTIVITY: On your way back from this cache, try stopping by the library, and look up the key words “Pilgrim, Sojourner, or Wanderer” in the catalog, crack open a random book, and write down a quotation with your log entry.
