Cache to Eagle-Potomac Council-Hardy #2 Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Potomac Council, BSA: We've enjoyed the caches, but it's time to make room for new caches and new series. We've been contacted by another cacher who would like to help set up a new series for WV, and unfortunately some of ours are in the way.

Thanks to all who logged comments and enjoyed our series!

How Geocaching Works

Geocache Description:

Reaching the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America requires years of dedication and hard work. In addition to 21 required merit badges, each Scout must complete a project that — on average — requires 167 service hours. In 2008 alone, that translated to $16 million in service (based on the national volunteer hour value of $19.51).

This cache is part of a nationwide geocaching series called “Cache to Eagle” that showcases these special contributions.

Over its first 100 years, Scouting has provided millions of hours of service to communities across America. For our 100th Anniversary, we’re celebrating that legacy with special service opportunities through “A Year of Celebration, A Century of Making a Difference.” You can join us, and even earn a commemorative patch! Visit www.Scouting.org/100years to learn more.

The Potomac Council, #757, BSA, based out of Cumberland, MD has guided and supported scouting in this area for just over 70 years. The council serves Allegany and Garrett Counties in Maryland, and Hampshire, Hardy, Grant, and Mineral Counties in West Virginia. Potomac Council is one of the smallest scout councils in the country serving, at the end of 2009, 1202 youth comprising 60 Cub Scout Packs, Boy Scout Troops, Venture Crews, and Explore Posts. Each year in Potomac Council, on average, only about 17 boys attain the rank of Eagle Scout. To learn more about the Potomac Council go to www.bsa757.org.

Now on to the cache…..

For Potomac Council’s portion of the “Cache to Eagle” series we decided to take cachers on a tour of the council area and have them visit some of the out of the way places in our area. There are two “Cache to Eagle” caches in each of the six counties that Potomac Council Serves. To add some incentive and some fun to the search, we have included a code word in each cache. The first 15 cachers who find all twelve and send an email containing the correct combination of GC code/cache name along with its code word will receive a really cool “Cache to Eagle” patch like the one shown here. Please include your geocaching username and mailing address in your email. After we verify your logs, we will send your patch. One patch per username.

This particular cache is placed to recognize a Eagle project completed in 1996 by a Scout from Moorefield who created a cassette library for sermons at the Moorefield Library.

Cache is a camoed decon located close to the library. Use extreme stealth and please return exactly where found.
Enjoy!!!
