This region was a low ground that had been placed between the Shingashi river and Arakawa river.
It suffered from a flood damage and constant agricultural rainwater shortage from of old.
The waterway of a wooden gutter from the surface of the water of about 4m height and 260m length was built to use water of "Nobidome millrace" that had been thrown away to the Shingashi river as an agricultural water.
This waterway was named "Iroha-Toi".
It was repaired from wooden at the Meiji era period, and it became shape that passed under the river.

You may see the remnants of an old waterway of the Meiji era period near the stone monument.

Moreover, the handrail of the nearby Iroha bridge makes this "Iroha-Toi" in Edo era a motif.
