This region was a low ground that had been placed between the Shingashi river and Arakawa river.
It suffered from a flood damage and constant agricultural rainwater shortage from of old.

"Hi" means waterway and sluice for millrace and drainage exclusion, too.
This "Hi" was used for the drainage exclusion and the flood defense in Edo period.

It was repaired from wooden to the brick at the Meiji era.
At that time, a large gate and a small gate were amalgamated.

You may see the remnants of an old waterway and sluice in the vicinity.
