A little about Tauranga's Saltmarsh ....... The inner harbour is mostly mud rather than sand, because of nutritious silts washing off the land and settling in the calm, sheltered waters.
Plants growing here have to be specially adapted to salt, exposure to sun and tidal fluctuations. Plant zones fringing the estuary reveal how fussy different species are about how much water logging by salt water they can tolerate.
Parking is at the bottom of Sylvania Drive. To further explore the area, you may wish to take the walkway/boardwalk from the carpark to GC23E8Q Elmes Reserve.
