The History of Geocaching
On May 1, 2000, President Bill Clinton's executive order to
discontinue "Selective Availability" allowing users to receive a
non-degraded GPS signal globally was executed.
On May 2, 2000, at approximately midnight, eastern savings time,
the switch controlling "Selective Availability" was thrown.
Twenty-four satellites around the globe processed their new orders,
and instantly the accuracy of GPS technology improved tenfold. Tens
of thousands of GPS receivers around the world had an instant
upgrade.
On May 3, 2000 Dave Ulmer placed the very first geocache, a black
bucket, in the woods near Beaver Creek, Oregon. Along with a
logbook and pencil, he left various prize items including videos,
books, software, a can of beans and a slingshot. He shared the
waypoint of his "stash" with the online community on
sci.geo.satellite-nav, and Geocaching was born.
Geocaching is 10 years old today. That calls for a
CELEBRATION!!!!

Make plans to join us May 1st (Saturday) from Noon to 4 p.m
Location-
Civic Center Park in Clinton Township
There's going to be a potluck lunch, a prize raffle, plenty of
cache talking and lots of friends!!
We will supply the plates/bowls, silverware, cups, napkins and
water. We are asking attendees to please bring their own drink
and something to share. While there are a few picnic tables,
depending on attendance, You may wish to bring a chair for
yourself
Please bring share dishes using the following schedule:
A - M - Bring Main Dish
N - Z - Bring Dessert, Salad, Munchies, Side dishes
Schedule -
Noon - arrive and check in
1:00 pm set up for lunch
1:30 pm lunch is served
2:30 pm Group Picture and then raffle off prizes
3:30 pm Begin caching in the 10 Clinton Township parks
4:00 pm end of the celebration

The people in the photo should be FESTIVE. Be inventive! But
please keep it family friendly.
We are planning to place new caches to be raffled as FTF prizes
on the event day throughout ALL of the Clinton Township
parks.
