This is the second of a series of caches that you can grab while snowshoeing or cross-country skiing. After many disappointments trying to get "summer caches" in the winter and just ending up digging a lot of snow and getting my gloves wet, I decided to try placing caches that can be grabbed all year round.
The Moose trail is a very nice snowshoe loop trail close to Idaho City. During winter, it is part of the Gold Fork Park N' Ski, one of the Park N' Ski areas, a program of the State of Idaho Parks and Recreation. You pay a little fee to park your car in one of this locations and than you have access to a lot of winter activities: winter camping, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, and so on.
This cache is an easy grab for snowshoers and skiiers. Is close to the trail, so getting there is the challenge. Since you need snowshoes or skiis, that's why is a 3.5 star terrain. Part of the trail is a slightly steep uphill (or downhill), but. We saw people of all ages doing the hike. Nice views.
This cache is planned to be avaliable all year round, but we'll have to check it again once all the snow is gone. The cache is a small camouflaged container, with room for little swag. BYOP and please, re-hide it very well, since is so close to the trail!
We had a very fun day there, my brother BUCA USLI and his friend REMED, both coming from a Brazilian summer to enjoy some snow fun with me in Idaho. REMED never saw snow before this trip, so she was amazed. If you want, leave her a message too!
