The new Hammit St Railroad bridge opened January15, 2010. It replaces the old wooden Railroad bridge that is just a few feet north of the new bridge.
The Old Railroad bridge was built in the eary 1900s by L&N Railroad Company. It was used by Hartselle residents for more than 80 years. I can remember as a child riding over the bridge in the back of a pick up truck leaving softball games and being terrified. Shadowrider (my dad) told me as we were placing this cache that he repled off this bridge one time. If you have time, check out the old bridge. It is only several feet north of the new bridge.
CSX Railroad company is responsible for the old bridge now. I am not sure what they plan to do with it. Personaly I hope they leave and it and not tear it down. It is full fo memories for the residents of Hartselle.
