It is now an empty lot on 182nd Street near 73rd Avenue in Fresh
Meadows, but its disposition has been the source of some
controversy in recent years. It contains 77 Colonial-era graves
dating back to 1730. The markers have either been buried or stolen
in the intervening years.
The owner of the property would like to build on it, while the
Queens Historical Society and the Brinkerhoff family would
obviously like to keep it as a historic cemetery. As of fall 2000
the case is still being hashed out in court.
