The Sheekhan Mountains are the only geological formations on the planet, where vestiges of sea reefs referred to the Perm Age can be found. They are: Urak-Tau, Kush-Tau, Shakh-Tau and Tra-Tau.
Million years ago the territory Bashkortostan occupies now was the bottom of a vast and very warm sea. That time, called "the childhood of the planet", billions of various mollusks lived here. They were born, lived and died on these shoals and their shells formed the present Sheekhany. As the scientist says, there were just a few such riffs in the ancient times and as for the uniqueness of Sheekhany, it is that this once underwater riff represents a full chain of mountains, which managed to preserve their original structure.
