Geocache Description:

It's time to start getting excited about Edmonton's Fifth Annual Cache and Release Event, Cache and Release WEEKEND 2010. We are hoping that this year's event is going to be the most exciting, most fun, cache-filled event Edmonton has ever seen. And maybe the weather will be a little kinder to us this year than last? Regardless, this year's event will be another entire weekend of fun.

Here is our recipe for a fun time:

1. HIDE SOME CACHES

Starting immediately, get out in the winter sunshine and start hiding caches. This years theme is free containers!

All CARW2010 caches should be medium or large sized and should be acquired at no (or little) cost to yourself. This means PB Jars, your wife's tupperware (especially L & L's!), or home-made containers are all excellent choices. Of course, all caches must contain a log book, and should have a pencil and some trading items. All CARW2010 caches must be winter friendly.

All caches should be within a 40 kilometer radius from the posted coordinates. The 40km radius sets the boundaries at roughly (in a counter-clockwise arc) Stony Plain, Calmar, Leduc/Kavanagh, New
Sarepta, Blackfoot Park, Fort Saskatchewan Industrial, Gibbons and Calahoo. The posted coordinates are located at 100th Avenue and 100th Street in the heart of Downtown Edmonton.

There is no ammo can or spruce tree requirement this year, meaning that as long as the cache fulfills the abovementioned criteria, it can be a CARW2010 cache. All caches should include a Reviewers' Note, and should include CARW2010 at the end of the title. For example, Stumped by Another Lousy Pun (CARW2010) would suffice. If there are any issues regarding train tracks, clarification etc., please include this in the reviewers' note to make publishing easier. Cache Effect has requested that all caches be submitted no later than Tuesday, March 9.

2. FIND SOME CACHES

This year's event will commence at 9:00am on Saturday, March 13, 2010. Starting at this time, you can search out as many CARW2010 caches that you can. You can search in teams, with a buddy, with a dog, individually... whatever strikes your fancy. Just make sure that you write down the time that you/your team finds the cache. If you want to qualify for points and prizes, ensure that you return to the banquet by 5:00 pm on Sunday, March 14, 2010 or risk losing points.

We are anticipating that Cache Effect will be publishing the CARW2010 caches at 6:00pm on Friday, March 12, 2010. Please remember that caches CANNOT be hunted until 9:00am the following morning.

3. EARN SOME POINTS

Scoring rules will be coming soon!

4. AFTER-PARTY!

Starting at 5:00pm on Sunday, March 14, 2010, the CARW after-party will commence. You should have your scoresheet completed by this time, and submit it to the markers for review and prizes. The venue for the after-party will again be Plato's Pizza. The address is 8514 109 Street, in the Garneau area.

At the after-party, the scoresheets will be tallied, prizes will be voted upon, and a Cache and Release Weekend 2010 winner will be declared.

5. COMPETE FOR PRIZES

It is our hope that we will have dozens of prizes available. Last year, we had enough prizes that everyone took home something (or multiples!) This year, we will strive for the same. Prizes will be awarded for the following CARW2010 achievements:

· Best Hide Overall

· Best Puzzle Cache

· Most Difficult (D), as voted upon.

· Most Difficult (T), as voted upon.

· Most Embarrassing Story

· Most Caches Hidden

· Most Caches Found

· Most Winter Friendly Cache (New for 2010!)

· Best Use of a "Free" Container (New for 2010)

· Most FTFs.

· Most Likely to be Muggled before Easter

· Newest Cacher

· Furthest Distance Traveled to Attend CARW2010

6. VOLUNTEER

There are several reasons to volunteer your assistance to help run this shindig. You get to be a part of the greatest event ever held in Edmonton, you get to contribute to your community, and you will receive a good feeling that you are helping out.

We are currently seeking volunteers to help out before the event and
during the banquet/after-party.
Even if you are not able to participate in the event, feel free to swing by the after-party, find a cache (or 100) after the event, or place caches regardless! Some of the best CAR caches in past years have been placed by people unable to attend the event.
