Geocache Description:

10 Years of Geocaching
Picnic
Terra Cotta, Ontario

It all started on May 1st, 2000 when President Clinton announced that the scrambling of the satellite navigation system, known as Selective Availability (SA), would be turned off. Everyone would now be able to enjoy greater accuracy of the Global Positioning System (GPS) which would allow geocaching to become what it is today. The first stash was hidden by Dave Ulmer just outside of Portland, Oregon on May 3rd, 2000 and was found the next day. On May 30th, 2000 Matt Stum suggested the name geocaching which our great activity has been known by ever since.

Now 10 years later, geocachers from Ontario and around the world are getting together to celebrate 10 Years of Geocaching. There will be hundreds of events held around the world on May 1st/2nd 2010 to bring cachers together for this milestone in Geocaching.

For more detailed information about this event, be sure to visit the official event page at:

Join in for this fun geocaching picnic event located in Terra Cotta Conservation Area. I will be paying for the costs associated with hosting this event, so the event will be FREE to attend, but to get into the conservation area, they do charge a small fee which we have no control over, or you can hike in for free from the Bruce Trail or Caledon Trailway.

Event starts at 10am and will go until about 5pm. It is being held at the large pavilion (2600sq feet) which is located just past the visitor center on the northeast side of the main parking lot

Enjoy a day of socializing, caching, lunch, prizes and more.

Lunch will be pot luck, so try to bring something to share and something for yourself.

There is also a special group geocoin that will be available at this event to commemorate 10 Years of Geocaching. Our event will have it's own custom version of this coin (Colours/Metal) and only 50 will be available, so if you want some, please reserve your's today by emailing me. Price is only $10 CDN so they will sell out quickly. Go to the link to the official event page above to see more information and artwork. All 50 geocoins have been reserved now. No more will be made.

When logging your Will Attend, please indicate how many people are in your party and what if anything you plan on bringing for the pot luck lunch.

There will be a number of prizes awarded at the end of the day. If you also wish to donate a prize for this event, please contact me through my geocaching profile.
