Geocache Description:

Wheel chair geocachers might like to take the path that starts at the left side of the apartment block at the bottom of Bowman street. This is more wheel chair friendly.

Wheel chair geocachers might like to bring a helper as the container might be hard to reach from your chair

Please keep an eye on Geokiddies in this area as there is no fence between the path and the water

There is absolutely no need to tread in any gardens looking for this cache.

This is a great place to come for a BBQ and to watch the boats come and go, or stop for a rest if you are push biking through.

BBQ Facilities and benches provided.

Following the path east will take you to another cache named Pier-Mont (GC1QW88), Star City and Darling Harbour.

Following west-s/west will take you to the Sydney Fish Markets and another cache called Fishhead (GCRKMM), and it will also take you to the base of the Anzac bridge where you can take the ramp to walk (or ride if your keen like me) up and over the bridge.

Please be mindful of muggles in the area, especially on weekends.

I really like this newly developed park and bbq area, but I'm a little disappointed I cant find more information about the original site.

The original site was the old CSR sugar refinery.

The giant steel balls were used to mix cane juice with lime to precipitate impurities and to stop the sucrose from decaying into fructose and sucrose.

After resting the mixture would separate with the solids resting on the bottom.

The balls are hollow and weigh about a tonne and a half each.

Unfortunately thats all the information I could find about the history of the giant balls and this site.

If you know any more, or anything more accurate, please feel free to let me know.
