Geocache Description:

Invercargill’s Oldest Existing Wooden Residence

Yule House was built by businessman Robert Duncan Yule in 1866-67, a Scottish immigrant who ran drapery stores in Invercargill, Bluff, Stewart Island and Mataura.

In 1865, Robert Yule received a Crown grant for two sections fronting Forth Street, where he built his ten roomed, two storeyed dwelling.

In the early 1930’s the house was moved to its present location which is approximately 20 metres north of its original site.

The Troopers Memorial Corner Charitable Trust purchased this building on 1 November 2002 when it was in a state of disrepair. The Trust has restored it as closely as possible to its original state, including lifting the building in situ and pouring concrete foundations. This was done with the fireplaces intact.

The building has a NZ Historic Places Trust Category II classification. In its restored state, it will continue its use as a residence.

Cache is a 400 ml sistema container painted green.

It can be a busy area so watch out for muggles.
