Geocache Description:

Nice little spot!

Heloooooooooooo my fellow Montclairian’s!

Yes, I have another little known fact about Montclair. Therefore, on that note, here is the back-story on this place, where in deed “They Built It, and They Came”. This now vacant lot that housed several retail shops for Montclair from about 1986 to about 1999 has a little more history then, do you remember “PACE” Warehouse? Or even when it was a “Sam’s Club” at one time, until it moved out to the Ontario Mills mall. There were even side retail shops, that I do not really think ever made it or were occupied. There were a couple of restaurant that stood near Monte Vista, but they to are gone now as well.

So what was so interesting here before all of the retail shops you ask? A baseball field. This is where big dreams were made until about 1987 when they moved the location to Central and Kingsley and the ballpark is now called Saratoga Park, and it homes Montclair Central Little League, Montclair Eastern, and Aysso Soccer leagues today.

Well before that when it was on Monte Vista and Moreno is was called John F. Kennedy Park, and here big dreams were made by local Montclair kids. I can actually say that my baseball team the “Royals” were the last team to play this field before it was all torn down. It was a big event that day, it was sad, but we kids were so excited to be playing on a new baseball field in the near future. But still it was sad to see such a place closing down. I can remember my brother playing here and all of his friends, and saying to my self, “I’m gonna play hear too someday”. And I did, three games. That was it, only three games and then they shut it down.

I wonder who made it big from hear if anyone at all, sometimes when I drive by with my window down I can still hear those aluminum bats cracking away at baseballs and hearing the parents cheer so load. Awh! Remember when we were young and had nothing to worry about. All on our minds were how were we going to win our next game. Those were days.

And the FTF goes to?.........................CraigsOutside!!!! Good Job!

Cache starts with logbook, mini pen, game rules, and Travel Bug.
