Geocache Description:

This cache is located in the Arthur B. Davis park. It is a Rubbermaid lock-top container. There is a picnic table here, so bring a lunch and imagine working the big rigs of Texas.

The actual location of Barbers Hill Oilfield is located about a mile north of this location. The field was discovered in April 1916 and named for Barbers Hill, a salt dome named in turn for an early settler, Amos Barber. The oilfield equipment at this park would have been the same equipment used at Barbers Hill oilfield and other oilfields around the country. By September of 1929, the Barbers Hill field had an average daily production of 20,000 barrels of oil, second only to Jefferson County's Spindletop Gushers
