Easy park and grab
After building a house at the end of a 2 mile long private camp road,(and being the only year round person at the time) it was clear I had to get something to plow the road. I found a 1986 Ford one ton with a 460 motor, a nine foot plow and supposedly only 62000 miles....NOT! But the price was right and this thing had about 16 halogen lights on the roof plus a dump rear body!
I was instantly accepted into the local good ol'boys club in South China, especially after I added dual Big Daddy Glass Pacs to the exhaust system. ( I was told "She sounds real crisp!)
While I'm not a gear head, I can turn a wrench and I turned a lot of wrenches keeping this truck going. After the first year, it never went on a real road as brakes seemed to be somewhat optional. But with the big plow all I had to do to stop was drop the plow! With all the halogens on, it looked like Disney Land coming down the road! I used at least one quart of oil every storm and then it happened.....yeah, big fire! I managed to grab my bag phone and my beer ( that's why they call it getting plowed) and thankfully the fire department took their time getting to the scene and the thing was totalled. My insurance company gave me $1500, about twice what I expected, I sold the plow for 500 and I was back to even on the original purchase price!
Friends don't let friends drive Fords! I bought the first of a long line of Chevy's to plow with after that experience.
