According to The Southern Historical News (April 2009 edition), the small community of Biscoe in northern Montgomery County was a model for early education in the state of North Carolina.
Biscoe has the distinction of having the first Chartered High School and the first Chartered Middle School in the state of North Carolina.
The high school was built in 1908 for $4,000 using Volunteer labor. Ground was broken in June and it was ready for use in September.
"For years, Biscoe school was the only school between Aberdeen and Asheboro, and students came all the way from West End, nearly 20 miles away, on the morning train, and caught it back home in the afternoon."
From the cache location, it is easy to see how this could be done!! Be wary of little muggles at certain times of the day!
