Geocache Description:

Sardis Congregational Church

The Sardis Congregational Church was founded in 1871 for a large Welsh population of Emporia and surrounding area. The original building was a log cabin built on the land of Edward Evans.

On February 11, 1911, William Allen White wrote this about the Welsh people:

"The Welsh people in Emporia and vicinity probably number several thousand souls; yet there are no Welsh paupers, no Welsh criminals, no Welsh loafers, no Welsh snobs; they are the salt of the earth, and Emporia is a better, cleaner, kindlier town because it is the home of these people."

Cache is an ammo can that is easily seen.

I have heard there are a couple of neighbor dogs that may greet you but they are no danger.

Cache placed with permission from Pastor Gary.
