Here lies the final resting place for William Charles Wentworth the statesman and explorer (1973?-1872).

It was at his request that his mausoleum be built here below the cliffs that he frequently visited to view the harbor and his estate Vaucluse House.

The Gothic Style Sandstone Mausoleum was designed by the mansfield brothers and overseen by Sarah Wentworth. It was the final destination of a public funeral procession on May 6th 1873.
