Boulton Moor Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Fingolfin_UK: Definitely gone missing - the log it was hidden under has been moved. Evidence of drinking, fires, and general litter - therefore reluctantly archiving this cache. I may hide another cache on Boulton Moor sometime later in the year, if I can find somewhere suitable.

Geocache Description:

This cache is hidden in the green wedge between the Derby suburb of Chellaston and the suburbs of Boulton and Alvaston. The pasture land here is known as Boulton Moor.

A public footpath runs from Back Lane (Chellaston) to Field Lane (Alvaston), and there are many informal paths crossing this area, which are used by dog walkers etc. These can be very muddy after rain, so please use appropriate footwear. The best parking is probably at Field Lane Community Centre (N52° 53.008' / W001° 25.542') and then follow the footpath on to Boulton Moor.

The cache is hidden about 50m to the west of the public footpath, just off an informal path which runs round the boundary of a field. When searching, please beware of barbed wire and thorns in the hedge (although no barbed wire at GZ itself).

Nearby at N52° 52.852' / W001° 26.280' is a Site of Special Scientific Interest Boulton Moor SSSI. This site consists of an area of land underlain by glacial deposits and river gravels. which date from the 'Ice Ages' or Quaternary period of geological history. The deposits are of special research interest because they record a series of different episodes in the history of the Trent valley. The oldest deposits here are glacial clays, overlain by river gravels of several different ages. The gravels contain fossil remains of animals such as hippopotamus, which lived in Britain during warm intervals within the 'Ice Ages'.

The cache is a small plastic lock & lock container which holds log book & pencil in a ziploc bag.
